From the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation:
The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of it’s annual $25,000.00 award to a visual artist living in the state of Maine. The award is accompanied by a solo exhibition at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland, Maine. The esteemed curators, Thomas Lax, Laura Phipps and Kate Krazon selected Reggie Burrows Hodges from among a wide range of applicants from across the state. Ultimately the Jurors selected Hodges for the following reasons:
I was moved by the cinematic sensibility of his paintings that are rooted in everyday life as well as his deft treatment of pigment on large-scale raw canvas and also his keen self-awareness of where he sits within a history of image making. The President of the Board of the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, Ellen Golden added, “The Ellis Beauregard Foundation is pleased to expand the legacy of our founders, John David Ellis and Joan Beauregard, with the announcement of the third fellowship in the visual arts. Our goal with this program is support the further development of the fellow’s practice and increase the visibility of their work in Maine and beyond. We are excited by the possibilities that the fellowship offers and look forward to seeing the results”.
