Born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1980, Steven Politowski is an accomplished musician, playing several instruments. He has performed and toured in several regional bands as a drummer and singer and is a sought after studio drummer. He was introduced to the art of glassblowing while enrolled as a student at Salem Community College. Salem is home to the nation's only Scientific Glass and Glass Art Associate Degree program. Steve originally started his training as a scientific glass blower. However, after working with the internationally recognized glass artist, Paul Stankard, he was introduced to the artistic side of flame working.
Steven has recently combined his passion for music and lamp work to create a line of glass musical instruments. Steve's unique processes allow him to produce glass instruments and accessories, such as guitar picks, that are beautiful as well as functional. He is currently creating fully functional drums and percussion instruments made of glass. His studio also produces a line of custom glass parts for motorcycles.
Steven has been trained as both a traditional furnace glass blower as well as a lamp worker. Lamp workers start with cold glass while furnace workers start with molten glass. He received his furnace glassblowing training while working at the Lenape, Pennsylvania studio of Irish craftsman and Simon Pierce. He has also honed his lamp working skills by training with award-winning glass artists Paul Stankard and Paul DeMarco. Steven currently collaborates with world renowned glass artist, Steve Sutherland.
