John Atwater

John Atwater was born in Worchester, Massachusetts in 1954.

After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree from the Washington University of Fine Art in St. Louis, Missouri, Atwater worked in freelance slide production, technical drawing and mechanical art before devoting himself full-time to maritime painting.

He has won awards in the 1985, 1988, and 1989 American Watercolor Society Exhibitions. In the 1985 Mystic Maritime Gallery International Exhibition, his painting were selected for the Mystic Seaport Museum purchase Award.

John Atwater's work is featured in Marine Painting, Splash and America's Best Contemporary Watercolors. In addition, his work has been published in American Artist, Yankee, Sailing, Motor Boating and Connecticut magazines. John Atwater is president of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, a member of the American Watercolor Society and a member of the American Society of Marine Artists.
